New Delhi, May 7, 2025 In a bold and strategic military response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack, India executed a high-intensity airstrike campaign on terror hideouts across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) under the codename Operation Sindoor. The operation, conducted at 1:30 AM on Wednesday, targeted nine terrorist facilities believed to be operated by Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

30 Reported Killed as JeM and LeT Headquarters Destroyed
According to intelligence sources and reports by news agency ANI, the coordinated strikes hit terror camps in Bahawalpur, Muridke, Bagh, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad. These locations were under active surveillance for harboring militants involved in cross-border attacks on Indian soil.
Pakistani local media reported at least 30 fatalities, primarily in Bahawalpur, following the aerial assault. Indian defense sources confirmed the destruction of key Jaish and Lashkar headquarters. The strike was executed using 24 precision-guided missiles, and it marked a rare cross-border operation of this scale since the Balakot airstrikes in 2019.
India Clarifies: No Civilian or Military Installations Targeted
In an official statement, the Indian Army clarified that the strike solely targeted terror infrastructure, not Pakistani military bases or civilian institutions. The operation was a joint effort between the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force, involving advanced aerial weaponry and real-time intelligence coordination.
Sources close to ANI confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally monitored the entire operation through the night. The targets were selected based on conclusive intelligence linking the camps to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 tourists, including one from Nepal.
Mixed Responses from Pakistan; Global Concern Mounts
In the aftermath, Pakistan’s Ministry of Defence and media outlets offered conflicting narratives.
-
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif told Geo TV that India launched missiles from within its own airspace, which allegedly landed in civilian zones.
-
PTV News, Pakistan’s state broadcaster, claimed two Indian fighter jets were shot down and that Indian forces targeted religious sites—a claim not verified by independent sources.
-
ISPR Director General Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry initially reported three deaths, later revising the figure to eight civilian fatalities and 35 injuries, with 2 persons missing. He also confirmed that 24 Indian missiles struck six different areas in PoK and Pakistan.
U.S. Calls for Restraint Amid Rising Tensions
Reacting to the airstrikes, U.S. President Donald Trump called the development “shameful,” stating, “People knew something was coming. These countries have been in conflict for decades, even centuries. I hope this ends soon.”
The April 22 attack in Pahalgam had drawn international condemnation after 26 tourists were killed by armed militants, who reportedly asked victims their religion before opening fire. While The Resistance Front (TRF) initially claimed responsibility, the group later denied involvement.
As geopolitical tensions rise in South Asia, India’s decisive action under Operation Sindoor has sent a strong message about its stance on cross-border terrorism.
