New Delhi, May 8 The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nationwide alert warning of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in multiple states across the country. The sudden shift in weather, particularly over Delhi NCR, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra, is expected to bring relief from dry conditions but also poses safety risks due to high winds and lightning.

The weather change could bring a much-needed boost to farmers whose crops have been drying up due to prolonged water scarcity.
Rain and Storm Alerts Issued for Multiple Districts in Haryana
The next 48 hours are expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall across northern and central Haryana.

25%–50% rain probability is forecast for Ambala, Panchkula, Yamunanagar, and Kurukshetra.

Heavy rain warnings have been issued for Kaithal, Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat, and Rohtak.

Further alerts are in place for Jhajjar, Rewari, Mahendragarh, Gurugram, Faridabad, Mewat, and Palwal.

Clear weather is predicted in Sirsa, Fatehabad, Hisar, Jind, Bhiwani, and Charkhi Dadri.
Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and ensure proper drainage around homes to prevent waterlogging.
Rajasthan and Maharashtra to Witness Intense Showers and Thunderstorms
In Rajasthan, IMD has predicted heavy rainfall and thunderstorms for the next three days. Alerts have been reissued for the districts of:

Jaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer, Kota, Udaipur, Bikaner, and Jodhpur
Meanwhile, in Maharashtra, the rainfall pattern will intensify across:

Amravati, Yavatmal, Wardha, Nagpur, Chandrapur, and Gondia

A yellow alert is active for Gadchiroli and Nandurbar

On May 10, rain is expected to cover entire Vidarbha, including Nashik, Pune, Satara, and Kolhapur
The state administration has advised farmers and citizens to secure belongings and prepare for power outages and localized flooding.
Southern and Northeastern States Also on Alert
The southern states of Kerala, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh are expected to experience intense showers accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.
The Northeast will also see wet conditions in Sikkim, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, Puducherry, and Arunachal Pradesh.
IMD has urged residents in all affected areas to stay indoors during storm hours, keep emergency kits ready, and avoid low-lying areas.
