Udaipur : A 30-hours long standoff in Doli Rotwada village of Sagwara block in Dungarpur district was resolved on Thursday midnight after the cops managed to convince the hostage taker villagers to release the two men who were abducted and held hostage in a government school since Wednesday afternoon. The police freed the men past midnight and took them to their homes safely. A case of abduction and physical assault has been registered against some of the men at Sagwara police station, officials said.
The standoff was result of a 1.5 month old incident wherein 3 youths of Doli Rotwada village were killed reportedly in a road accident. Harish, Kanti Roat and Lokesh Katara who were going from Bhasor towards Rotwada on bikes were killed and police investigation revealed it to be a road accident. However, the relatives of the victims alleged murder charges on two youths of Piluda Fala village and on Wednesday more than 200 villagers laid an attack ( as per the tribal custom of Chadohtara) on their homes at Piluda Fala.
The youths were not found but the infuriated villagers forcedly took both of the youths’ parents with them and held them hostage inside a government school building. Meanwhile, Kachru son of Gomna Parmar registered a police complaint against some men for abducting his father. Kachru said that when he went to meet the hostage takers for mediation talks, the mob attacked them and refused to release his father. The men also demanded compensation for the deaths of the youths, the report said.
