Bhopal, 20 August (Kiran News). The monsoon is fully active in Madhya Pradesh and its impact is visible in almost every part of the state. The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for 23 districts, including Jabalpur and Ratlam, on Wednesday. Light to moderate rainfall is also expected in major cities like Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, and Gwalior. It is estimated that similar weather will continue for the next four to five days.

According to the Meteorological Department, monsoon troughs, depression, and cyclonic circulation systems are currently active in the state. As a result, some areas are witnessing heavy rainfall, while others are getting light showers. Experts mentioned that a trough line is passing through the lower part of the state, while a cyclonic circulation has formed over the northeastern Arabian Sea. Due to these conditions, heavy rains continue in the southern and western districts. As a result, the department has issued a yellow alert for Wednesday in Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Dhar, Barwani, Khargone, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Harda, Sehore, Raisen, Narmadapuram, Betul, Narsinghpur, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Jabalpur, Seoni, Dindori, Mandla, and Balaghat. This warning may remain in effect until 25 August.
Very Heavy Rain Likely in Western Madhya Pradesh
The Meteorological Department states that very heavy rain is likely in several districts of western Madhya Pradesh over the next five days. Continuous rain in the last 24 hours has caused flood-like situations in many places. The effect is clearly visible in major cities like Bhopal and Indore. On Tuesday, the sky remained cloudy throughout the day. Heavy rainfall in the evening broke records and caused waterlogging in many parts of the cities.
Bhimapur Records Highest Rainfall
In the last 24 hours, Bhimpur in Betul district recorded the highest rainfall at 175 mm, followed by Sausar in Chhindwara with 132.5 mm. Kurai, Pandhurna, and Punasa also saw significant rainfall. Other districts, including Gwalior, Ujjain, Khargone, Seoni, Mandla, Damoh, Betul, and Guna, received light to moderate showers.
Significant Temperature Fluctuations
There have been considerable fluctuations in temperature due to heavy rains. Gwalior recorded the highest at 35°C, while Datia had 34.6°C, Narmadapuram 34.4°C, and Chhatarpur 34.2°C. Jabalpur recorded 32.6°C, Bhopal 32.2°C, Ujjain 31.5°C, and Indore 29°C. Khandwa was the coolest at just 16°C, and Pachmarhi reached 19.6°C.
Rain with Thunderstorm and Lightning Alert
Meteorological scientist Devesh Singh has warned of heavy rain with thunderstorm and lightning in Ujjain-Mahakaleshwar, Ratlam-Dholawad, Jhabua, Dhar-Mandu, Indore, Barwani-Bawangaja, Sagar, and Damoh. Moderate rain with thunder is likely in Alirajpur, Agar, Shajapur, Narsinghpur, Khargone-Maheshwar, Khandwa-Omkareshwar, Dewas, Harda, Burhanpur, Raisen-Sanchi-Bhimbetka. Light rain with lightning risk is forecast for Balaghat, Pandhurna-Pench, Seoni, Sehore, Bhopal-Bairagarh, Jabalpur-Bhedaghat, Mandla-Kanha, Rajgarh, Dindori, Mandsaur-Gandhisagar Sanctuary, Narmadapuram-Pachmarhi, Betul, Chhindwara, Anuppur-Amarkantak, Singrauli, Sidhi, Shahdol-Bansagar Dam, and Umaria-Bandhavgarh.
Notably, Indore received continuous rain for nine hours on Tuesday, recording over 2.5 inches. Bhopal experienced heavy rainfall in the evening, submerging many areas. Raisen and Narmadapuram recorded half an inch of rain.
