Gujarati family consume poison in Udaipur hotel, 2 dead

Udaipur : A Gujarati family consisting of a couple and their teenage children, which arrived Udaipur on Wednesday noon, consumed poison in their room after checking-in a hotel in Sector 14 area under the Goverdhan Vilas police station limit. The hotel is situated immediately on the entry of Udaipur city at the road side of Ahmedabad-Udaipur highway. All of them were rushed to the government hospital here where the couple died during treatment while their children are said to be serious.

The deceased were identified as Nainesh (55)son of Hasmukh lal Shah, his wife Damini (48) . As per the documents provided to the hotel, the family resides in Mahela wada, Limda Chowk,Modasa in Sabarkantha district. The hotel staff told the police that four of them had checked in around 12.15 pm who were given room no 101. After one hour, the girl Reeti (13) came running out of the room. She was vomiting and told the staff that they all had consumed poison.

The hotel management immediately informed the police which rushed to the spot and took them to hospital. Nainesh and his wife died after some time while the children were being treated in the ICU. The bodies have been shifted to the mortuary and their relatives back in Gujarat were informed of the tragedy.

“As for now, the reason why the family took such a harsh step and attempted a mass suicide is not know. It could be either some financial problem or personal matter that would be revealed once we are able to speak to the children or on the arrival of the relatives” an officer said. Since the act was committed within an hour of their arrival in the hotel, it is being perceived that they had planned to come here to kill themselves.
