Gujarat Governor Meets Speakers from Three States Ahead of Budget Session

Gandhinagar, February 12: Governor Acharya Devvrat held a courtesy meeting with the presiding officers of three state assemblies at Gujarat Lok Bhavan on Wednesday, ahead of the upcoming budget session of the Gujarat Assembly.

Present at the meeting were Gujarat Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, Haryana Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan, and Maharashtra Legislative Council Chairman Ram Shinde.

During the discussions, Chaudhary noted that the operations of the Gujarat Assembly are being modernized to adapt to changing times. He emphasized that the assembly has adopted the latest technology to enhance its efficiency and facilitate quicker discussions on public issues.

He mentioned that systems have been established to expedite deliberations on matters raised by members. Kalyan and Shinde shared insights on the reforms implemented during their respective tenures.

They discussed changes aimed at strengthening legal processes and making their assemblies more responsive to public concerns.

Governor Devvrat underscored the need to enhance outreach efforts related to the National Mission on Natural Farming, which he attributed to the inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He stated, “Natural farming methods will help ensure pure and nutritious food for future generations while contributing to the conservation of water, soil, and the environment.” He also initiated discussions on rural welfare programs and associated development efforts.

This meeting occurred just days before the Gujarat Assembly’s budget session, set to commence on February 16. The session will begin with the Governor’s address, followed by Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai presenting the state budget for 2026-27 on February 17.

During the session, discussions on the budget, grant demands, and other legislative matters are anticipated. The opposition is also expected to challenge the government on various ongoing issues within the state.
