Ground Report: How ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ celebrates the diversity in rich Indian culture

The famous Madhavpur Mela in Gujarat was organised under the initiative where a beautiful cultural integration of Gujarat and the North East was on perfect display. Here’s a ground report.

In a unique initiative, the famous Madhavpur Mela of Gujarat witnessed its first-ever cultural integration with the North-East. As the folklore goes, Madhavpur Ghed is the place where Lord Krishna married Rukmini, the daughter of King Bhishmaka. The annual fair celebrates the immortal journey which Rukmini undertook from Arunachal Pradesh to Gujarat with Lord Krishna.

The 4-day utsav saw a vibrant cultural trail of art, dance, music, poetry, story-telling and folk drama from Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and other North-Eastern States with the aim to integrate the rich cultures of the two regions.

The fair provided a unique opportunity to artists to showcase their talent and interact with each other. 

Among the highlights of the event were Krishna – Rupen ballet by Kalashree and Krishna Rukmini dance drama. Artists from the North East showcased a popular folk theatre Rukmani Haran in the Ankia-Naat genre. In the folk dance segment Pung Cholam dance of Manipur with acrobatics along with Manipuri Ras and Sankirtanaand was performed. 

An exposition and sale of art and crafts of Gujarat and handloom and handicrafts products from Arunachal, Manipur and other North-Eastern states were part of the event.
