Udaipur : Selected girls in every government schools in Rajasthan would get a chance to become an honorary principal for a day. From conducting the assembly prayers to visiting classrooms, supervising academic activities, mid day meal preparations- the girls would be given the charge to do all the functions of a real principal. Similarly, some girls would play the role of teachers who would take attendance, impart lessons and lead extra curricular activities for the day. The idea of one day school principal has been conceptualised by Rajasthan Council of School Education to commemorate the occasion of ‘International Day of the Girl Child’ on October 11.
The objective behind the idea is to inspire girl students for education as well as instill confidence and sense of pride in them. A letter has been sent by the council to all Chief District Education Officers ( CDEO) in all districts instructing to hold three day events as the ‘celebration of the girl students achievements’. The heads of all schools have been asked to hold three main events on the occasion. ” The main event would be ‘One day for the girl students’ wherein a deserving girl would be selected in each school to play the role of an honorary principal.The selection would be made on the basis of merit as per the participation in academics and other activities” Shivji Gaur, CDEO Udaipur told .
Some girls would be made teachers who would give lectures and lead other activities like a teacher. This would not only promote a healthy and productive teacher-student relationship but also allow the school authorities to understand what the students expect from the teachers and promote healthy competition among students to become principal and teachers next time. Slogan writing, poster-collage making, play and other competitions too would be held during the celebrations. The girl students would also be made to fill ‘sankalp patras’ or pledge to complete their school education to become self reliant and make sincere efforts to realize their dreams.
