Four killed, 23 hurt as van collides with lorry in TN

Tirupattur (Tamil Nadu), March 31 : In a tragic incident, four persons, including three women, were killed and 23 others injured, few of them grievously, when the van in which they were travelling collided with a lorry at Sholur near Ambur on the Chennai-Bengaluru National highway on Thursday. Police said the ill-fated van was transporting a group of workers, mostly women in and around Vaniyambadi to a private shoe making company in Kannigapuram, when the accident occurred. Preliminary investigations revealed that the van driver lost control due to rash driving and the vehicle crashed into the median and later rammed into the lorry, ferrying cement bags to Bengaluru. The van driver was killed in the accident and all the injured were admitted to Ambur government hospital. Senior police officials visited the accident spot and held inquiries. Vehicular traffic on the busy Chennai-Bengaluru National highway was affected for a couple of hours due to the accident. Further investigation is on. GSM CS1256
