The adverse weather conditions have severely impacted air travel, with several flights delayed due to poor visibility at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The railway network has also borne the brunt of the fog, with numerous trains arriving in Delhi delayed by several hours.

Rail Services Affected Due to Dense Fog

According to Indian Railways, at least 26 trains bound for Delhi are running behind schedule due to the thick fog enveloping northern India. Passengers at various railway stations were seen waiting for hours, with announcements of delayed trains being made frequently. Some of the prominent trains running late include:

  • Bihar Kranti Express
  • Shram Shakti Express
  • Gorakhdham Express
  • Humsafar Express
  • Mahabodhi Express
  • Vaishali Express
  • Sapt Kranti Express
  • Padmavat Express
  • Telangana Express
  • Mevar Express
  • Nizamuddin Duronto Express
  • UP Sampark Kranti Express

Railway officials have advised passengers to stay updated on train schedules through official channels and helplines to avoid inconvenience.

Poor Visibility Affects Air Travel

The dense fog has also caused disruptions in air traffic, with several domestic and international flights experiencing delays. Officials at Indira Gandhi International Airport have confirmed that while no flights have been canceled so far, the departures and arrivals are being closely monitored due to fluctuating visibility levels. Passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines before heading to the airport.

Weather Forecast and Temperature Outlook

IMD has indicated that the weather in Delhi-NCR will remain cloudy for the day, with the possibility of light rain by evening. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 19°C, while the minimum may dip to 9°C. The combination of fog, cold winds, and light drizzle is likely to maintain the chill in the air.

The department has also warned of continued foggy conditions in the coming days, urging commuters to exercise caution while traveling, especially during early morning and late evening hours.

Traffic Advisory Issued for Commuters

Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory for commuters, urging them to drive cautiously due to the reduced visibility on roads. “Use fog lights, maintain a safe distance between vehicles, and avoid overspeeding,” the advisory stated. Commuters are also advised to use public transport wherever possible to reduce traffic congestion and ensure safety.

Impact on Daily Life

The dense fog and cold conditions have disrupted normal life in the region. Schools in several parts of NCR witnessed low attendance as parents preferred to keep their children at home due to the biting cold. Office-goers too reported delays in reaching their destinations, with traffic moving at a snail’s pace during peak hours.

Meanwhile, vendors and daily-wage laborers, who rely on outdoor work, faced difficulties in carrying out their daily activities due to the adverse weather.

Health Precautions Advised

Doctors have advised residents, especially children, the elderly, and those with respiratory issues, to take necessary precautions to safeguard against the cold and pollution. Prolonged exposure to such weather can lead to respiratory infections, cough, and colds. Wearing layered clothing, keeping oneself hydrated, and avoiding early morning outdoor activities are recommended.
