Ceasefire Violated Again: Pakistan Fires Artillery Across LoC, Educational Institutions Shut in Jammu Region

Srinagar, May 7, 2025 Tensions flared along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) as Pakistan once again violated the ceasefire agreement, resorting to unprovoked artillery shelling in the Jammu region. The latest escalation comes in the wake of India’s firm diplomatic and military response following the Pahalgam terror attack.

Pakistan Violates Ceasefire

According to top Indian Army officials, the Pakistani army indiscriminately fired heavy artillery during the night of May 6–7, targeting civilian areas. The shelling resulted in the tragic death of three innocent civilians. Indian forces retaliated strongly and proportionately, inflicting significant damage on Pakistani positions.

First Use of Artillery in Latest Ceasefire Breach

This marks the first instance of artillery shelling in the current series of ceasefire violations, signaling a dangerous escalation by Pakistan. Defense sources confirmed that the shelling originated from Pakistani forward posts across both the LoC and IB, directly impacting border villages in Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan’s aggression is a response to the diplomatic and military pressure India has mounted post-Pahalgam, including Operation Sindoor,” a senior military source stated.

Schools and Colleges Shut Across 5 Jammu Districts

In response to the deteriorating security situation, the Divisional Commissioner of Jammu has ordered the closure of all educational institutions for the day in the following districts:

  • Jammu

  • Samba

  • Kathua

  • Rajouri

  • Poonch

Authorities have urged residents in border areas to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary movement until further notice. Emergency services are on alert, and security has been tightened in sensitive zones.

Strong Indian Response

The Indian Army, as per defence officials, responded effectively to the shelling, targeting Pakistani military positions involved in the violation. Details of the Pakistani casualties have not been officially released, but sources indicate heavy damage to enemy infrastructure.

India has repeatedly stated its commitment to peace but has also emphasized its right to defend civilian lives and territorial sovereignty. The recent series of escalations highlight growing instability in the region, especially following India’s strategic airstrikes on terror camps in Operation Sindoor.
