Bangladesh declares ‘general holidays’ in red zones of 10 districts

In an effort to stem the spread of Coronavirus in the country the government has put areas with high infection rates in Chattogram, Bogura, Moulvibazar, Chuadanga, Jashore, Madaripur, Narayanganj, Habiganj, Munshiganj and Cumilla districts under strict lockdown from Sunday. 

All the government and private offices in these areas will remain closed. However, emergency services will continue to function. In areas of Chattogram, Chuadanga the lock down will continue till July 8.

Different dates for the period of shut-down has been announced for various districts depending upon the assessment of the local administration. 

In the meanwhile, the death toll due to Coronavirus crossed 1,500 in Bangladesh on Monday as 38 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Bangladesh 3480 new Corona positive cases were also reported taking the total number of infected persons in the country to 1,15, 786.
