Cupertino, May 6 — After years of speculation and delays, Apple is reportedly accelerating its plans to launch its first-ever foldable iPhone, which could debut as early as next year. The tech giant is now said to have resolved one of the biggest engineering challenges: achieving a nearly crease-free display. With this breakthrough, Apple is poised to enter the foldable smartphone market with a design that could set new industry standards.

According to a new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s foldable iPhone will feature two major innovations — a visually seamless foldable display and a next-generation hinge mechanism that contributes to both functionality and durability.
Crease-Free Display to Set Apple Apart
One of the biggest drawbacks of current foldable smartphones is the visible crease where the display folds. Apple, known for its design precision, has reportedly overcome this issue with new display engineering. Gurman states that the crease on Apple’s foldable display will be “less noticeable” than any current competitor, offering users a near-flat visual and tactile experience when the device is open.
The display size is expected to be around 7.8 to 8 inches, providing a tablet-like experience in a compact smartphone form factor. Early leaks suggest the panel will be extremely thin, yet robust enough to withstand regular folding without impacting visual quality.
New Hinge Technology Using Titanium and Steel
In addition to a crease-free display, Apple is developing a high-quality hinge, possibly the most advanced yet in the foldable space. While Gurman did not reveal technical details, earlier analysis from renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo points to a hybrid titanium and stainless steel hinge system, which would ensure both strength and minimal thickness.
This advanced hinge technology is believed to be a critical factor behind the foldable display’s seamless look and could make the foldable iPhone more durable and tactile than existing models from competitors like Samsung, Google, and Huawei.
Impressive Form Factor Expected
For a first-generation device, the rumored form factor is striking. The foldable iPhone is expected to be just 4.5mm thick when unfolded and 9.5mm thick when folded, positioning it as one of the thinnest foldables on the market.
While there is no official word on the launch date, supply chain activity and increased leaks suggest that Apple may unveil the device in 2026, with prototypes potentially appearing in late 2025.
What This Means for Apple and the Foldable Market
If Apple succeeds in delivering on these technological promises, the foldable iPhone could redefine consumer expectations and trigger a new wave of innovation in the smartphone space. With a growing demand for hybrid devices that bridge the gap between smartphones and tablets, Apple’s entry could significantly expand the mainstream appeal of foldables.
