Petitioner’s Allegations

Gupta, who is also the National President of the Hindu Sena, stated that the attack was a premeditated conspiracy to deter him from pursuing the case.

“As soon as I heard the gunfire, I instructed my driver to speed up the car. When I looked back, I saw two individuals on a bike. This is a calculated attempt to intimidate me. I’ve received threats in the past, but I won’t back down,” Gupta asserted.

Police Investigation Underway

Circle Officer (Rural) Ramchandra Choudhary confirmed that Gupta was traveling to Jaipur when the alleged attack took place. According to Gupta, the bullet hit the area near the rear driver’s side of the car. However, no bullet marks have been found on the vehicle so far, prompting further investigation.

The police have called in an FSI (Forensic Science Investigation) team and are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to gather evidence.

Previous Threats to Gupta

Approximately three months ago, Gupta had filed a complaint at the Christian Ganj Police Station in Ajmer, alleging that he had received threatening phone calls. According to Gupta, the caller had demanded that he withdraw his court petition, threatening him with dire consequences.

Background of the Ajmer Dargah Case

The controversy stems from a petition filed by Gupta in the Ajmer Civil Court, claiming that a Sankat Mochan Mahadev Shiv Temple exists within the Dargah premises.

Key Developments:

  • Petition Filed: On November 27, 2024, the court admitted the petition.
  • Evidence Cited: Gupta referenced a book titled “Ajmer: Historical and Descriptive” written by retired judge Harbilas Sarda in 1911, claiming that the Dargah was constructed using debris from a temple. The petition also alleged the presence of a Jain temple within the premises.
  • Court Notices: Notices were issued to the Minority Affairs Ministry, the Dargah Committee, and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

Opposition and Hearing:

  • The Dargah Committee and other parties have filed applications seeking dismissal of the petition.
  • A hearing was conducted on January 24, during which the court sought Gupta’s response. The Dargah Committee requested more time to reply, and the next hearing is scheduled for March 1, 2025.
