Udaipur : Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organisations (FIAPO), an apex animal protection agency in a letter to the commissioner of Udaipur Municipal Corporation on Tuesday, has urged to put a stay on the tender on dogs birth control program, being carried out by an NGO on the grounds that the dogs are being treated cruelly and sterilized unscientifically. The organisation Bhindi Rishi Pashu Kalyan Samiti (BRPKS) has recently won the Animal Birth Control (ABC) tender in Udaipur.
” BRPKS have started catching and operating in Udaipur since past two weeks. It does not have the required recognition from AWBI as an ABC implementation agency and the as per a Supreme Court order dated 4-10-2016, the ABC program can only be started after they receive inspection and approval from the AWBI” Ratnashree Patowary from FIAPO said. She further said several violations have been witnessed and documented since its operation in Udaipur. Dogs from different areas are collected in the same truck with no compartment, no tag, no tracking of the location of where they have been caught.
The catching operations are very rough and include beating of the dogs. About 50 dogs with no tags to identify them and 22 who were crowded in one single room with no food or water available were witnessed on tuesday by the volunteers. No cooking facilities or food were present on the site. The activists informed the commissioner that infrastructure is still under construction. Sterilization is not done as per the ABC Rules and do not have sufficient staff and veterinary to proceed the ABC procedure.
