ABVP, NSUI members clash inside dean’s chamber, 15 arrested

Udaipur : Ugly scenes were witnessed in the Art’s college of Mohanlal Sukhadia University campus on Thursday when members of the ABVP and NSUI clashed with each other inside the Dean’s chamber. Policemen had to use slight power to control the students who shouted inside the dean’s chamber and turned aggressive. Fifteen students including 6 from the NSUI, 8 from ABVP and one from the Hindu Jagran Manch were arrested by the Pratapnagar police under section 151 of the CrPC for disturbing peace who were later produced before the ADM (city) in the evening.

The root for the dispute was the act of NSUI supporters who a day ago changed the name of the college auditorium from Pt Deendayal Upadhyaya sabhagaar to Pt Jawaharlal Nehru sabhagaar. The incident co-incided with Deendayal Jayanti that fell on Wednesday and therefore the NSUI act infuriated the ABVP band that claimed that it was an unlawful deed committed by the congress supported student union members. Meanwhile, the NSUI leaders held that the decision of name change was included in the minutes of the BOM meeting held a fortnight ago and after the minutes were made public, the students’ party put the new banner on the door of the assembly hall.

On Thursday, both the groups went to the dean to register their grievances and the heated arguments turned ugly. Police had to interfere and disperse the crowd while 15 students were arrested. Meanwhile, All India Vice President of the ABVP and Dean Law college Prof Anand Paliwal condemned the act. ” In the BOM meeting it was decided that the existing buildings/canteen and auditoriums would continue with the old names while a new committee would be framed for naming of new buildings in future” Paliwal said. Meanwhile, Prof Sanjay Lodha, the university’s media incharge said that the minutes had been decided by the Vice chancellor and the Registrar. The allegations of issuing false minutes are baseless and untrue.
